John is committed to making ethical investment accessible to all NZ investors. Before co-founding Pathfinder in 2009 John worked in law firms and investment banks in Auckland, London and Sydney. He has a BCom/LLB(Hons) from Auckland University. He’s a board member of Men’s Health Trust and a member of the government appointed Code Working Group (designing a new code of conduct for financial advice in NZ).
Paul heads our investment team and our ethical investment processes. Before co-founding Pathfinder in 2009, Paul had extensive experience in financial markets, having worked in Wellington, London, Singapore and Auckland. Paul has a BSc (Operations Research) from Canterbury University and is a member of the Investment Committee for Arthritis NZ.
Amanda joined Pathfinder after four years as Head of Marketing, Communications and Education for the non-profit KiwiSaver Simplicity. She has spearheaded a rebrand and digital integration project at Pathfinder bringing together its managed funds and KiwiSaver plan under one roof. A published author and media commentator, Amanda has cultivated a reputation as a KiwiSaver and personal finance expert in New Zealand She holds a journalism degree from Carleton University in Canada, an MPhil from Trinity College Dublin, and is a graduate of Standford Graduate School of Business' LEAD programme.
Hamesh joined Pathfinder in April 2019 and primarily manages Australasian equities. Hamesh has 10 years’ financial markets experience, beginning his career as an analyst in the investment strategy team at Goldman Sachs JBWere, after a summer at the Reserve Bank of New Zealand. Prior to Pathfinder, he co-founded an independent stock market research firm. Hamesh holds a BCom (Hons)/LLB from Auckland University.
Jeanette heads our customer service experience, striving for our investors to be well informed and treated like family. Jeanette has previously worked in customer services in the finance industry in both Melbourne and Auckland and has also helped with fundraising for the Heart Research Institute NZ. Jeanette has a Diploma in Business from UNITEC in Auckland and is a Financial Advisor.
Ross has held senior change management roles across various sectors including utilities, banking, and property. He's also set up and run large scale project management office teams and driven M&A deals and integrations at Westpac (Sydney) and UBS (London). Ross has over 15 years financial services sector experience in banking and wealth management. He holds a BA in Management Studies from the University of Auckland, and a MCom in Business Administration from the University of Canterbury. In his spare time, Ross enjoys time with his family and a good book.
Simon joined Alvarium Wealth in March 2020 and assists in the design, implementation and management of portfolios. Prior to this, Simon was on ASB Bank’s graduate programme where he spent time with the automation team, driving efficiencies and transforming customer experiences by leveraging a suite of automation tools. Simon graduated from the University of Auckland with a B. Com (Finance and Information Systems) and is a CFA Level II Candidate.”
James Caughey is a member of the investment committee as well as a member of the Global Macro Research Committee. His leadership role at Alvarium Wealth covers strategic asset allocation, manager research and portfolio and fund construction. James has 11 years’ investment management experience. James graduated from the University of Auckland with a B.Com Finance and BA Classics and Ancient History (1st class honours).
Simon’s role involves working with the Head of Operations and the investment and advice teams, maintaining the funds and trading systems as well as liaising with new clients. Simon holds a bachelor’s degree in management and is currently completing his final year of an EMBA degree through Massey University. He is people focussed and enjoys both the relationship and technical sides of his role, with past experience ranging over private and public sectors. Simon loves the outdoors and when not working or studying can be found in the ocean or on the trails.
Pippa looks after Pathfinder’s financial accounts. She’s had over 20 years’ accounting experience, including in London where Pippa was a member of the Stock Exchange. She has a BCom (Accounting) from Auckland University. Pippa has been generous with her time to family-orientated organisations and charities, including fundraising initiatives.
Kate is our resident environmental, social and governance (ESG) analyst. She also gives her time to causes she is passionate about, which usually have an environmental focus. Kate has a Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Science from the Auckland University of Technology.
Lizzy is responsible for the regulatory and operational compliance for the business. She has over 7 years’ experience in the local finance sector. Prior to joining Alvarium, she is experienced in licensing, AML/CFT, statutory reporting, building and implementing compliance framework into procedures. Lizzy is a member of CPA Australia and ACAMS. Lizzy graduated BBA from Northwood University as Magna Cum Laude and has a Masters Degree in Accounting from AUT.
Bob is expert at challenging our thinking and solving our problems. He has 30 years’ experience in I.T. Consultancy, Project Management and Operations, being a former President and CEO of various companies. Bob has a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science from the University of Edinburgh.
Nik has a lifetime of experience with technology and software engineering, and has spent the last 15 years in various disciplines including large scale finance platforms, brochure websites, mobile apps and CRMs. Prior to Pathfinder, she was a lead software engineer at personal loans provider Harmoney until shortly after their IPO in November 2020.
Ana is the latest to join our growing team at Pathfinder and comes to us from DASL, the Development Advisory Services Limited, where she was the office manager. Ana holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Auckland University, where she majored in marketing and management. She is currently part of our stellar customer service team and is always a friendly happy face in the office.
Originally from Nepal, Ayesha holds a Bachelor of Business from St. Xavier's College in Kathmandu and joined Alvarium Wealth as Office & Marketing Manager in August 2018. She has over 7 years of experience in strategic public relations, event management and marketing best practices - including B2B, digital, content marketing and email marketing. Three main reasons she loves marketing: people, technology and creativity.
As CFO of Alvarium Investments, Simon has financial oversight for both the Investment and Wealth Management arms of the business. Simon graduated from Otago University with BCom (Finance), BA (History) and DipGrad (Accounting). He is a Chartered Accountant, starting his career in Audit with EY in Auckland and London. He works in financial markets roles in London, predominantly at Barclays Capital, where he spent five years in Business Development and as a COO for Foreign Exchange & Emerging Markets. After ten years abroad, Simon returned to NZ to take up a Strategy role with Sealord before moving internally to Group Treasurer, and then progressing to CFO at a derivatives broker; OM Financial (now Jarden). Outside of work, Simon enjoys skiing, cycling and family time.
Brad’s responsibilities are wide-ranging across the Alvarium Wealth group and include monitoring and rebalancing client portfolios, trade execution, system development and client reports. Brad worked in a variety of banking roles in the in London, before returning to Auckland where he was a business analyst for Tower Portfolio Administration Services. Brad has 22 years’ financial markets experience. Brad has a B Com (Economics) from the University of Auckland.
Kevin McLean joins Alvarium New Zealand as Director of Private Wealth after almost 12 years as a Partner with BNZ Private Bank, providing private banking, financial and investment advice to high-net-worth families in New Zealand and internationally. Kevin is well known in the New Zealand financial advice industry with a career that spans more than 30 years working with New Zealand and international fund management organisations, private banking and advice on portfolio design and construction for both traditional equity, bond and alternative investment strategies. Kevin holds a diploma of Business Studies from Massey University and is a Financial Adviser.
Nish joined Alvarium Wealth in February 2020 after working at Westpac Private & Wealth and BNZ Private Bank for 17 years. Before coming to New Zealand, he worked with a Fortune 500 Oil company in India (previously Shell Oil). Nish is an Financial Adviser and has a post-graduate diploma in Personal Financial Planning from the University of Waikato. He is also a Certified Financial Planner. Outside of work, Nish is a keen tennis player and has represented India in table tennis.
Andrew is a Partner, Executive Board Member and Co-Chairman of Alvarium, an independent, global boutique that offers tailored investment solutions for families, foundations, institutions and sovereigns. Globally, Alvarium has offices in North America, Europe and Asia Pacific, supervising assets in excess of US$22 billion of assets. Andrew is also chair of The Prince’s Trust NZ, a charity committed to youth development in New Zealand.
Mei has extensive experience in banking and finance, tax and compliance. She is currently Head of Compliance at Alvarium in New Zealand. She has worked in law firms in Hong Kong, London and Wellington, and has also managed a wine business introducing New Zealand wines to the New York market. Mei has an LLB/BCA from Victoria University in accounting and finance.
Brett has an extensive background in private equity and corporate finance globally working in the USA, UK, Australia and New Zealand. He is currently CEO of Tailorspace and Managing Director of Alvarium Investments Limited. He holds a number of directorships, including for Mike Greer Homes and Mojo Coffee, and has grown businesses in both ownership and executive roles.
Ben is the Founder and Managing Director of Tailorspace and the Ben Gough Family Office. He has a broad range of experience and is directly engaged in private equity, commercial development and asset management. Previous and current governance roles include Directorships at Mike Greer Homes (NZ), Southbase Construction, Deputy Chair at Gough Group, and Mons Royale. Ben brings his commercial experience and long term perspective, balancing entrepreneurial and established commercial interests. He is particularly proud of his roles in establishing the Ben Gough Family Foundation and as a Founding Trustee of the Prince’s Trust New Zealand.
Anya is passionate about young people’s role in the future of our economy, communities and democracy. She is currently Chief Executive of Leadership New Zealand and before that Chief Executive of The Prince’s Trust NZ. Anya has a B.A. from Canterbury University, a Graduate Diploma of Teaching and Learning from the Christchurch College of Education and continues her postgraduate study at Victoria University. She brings specialist NGO and ethics skills to Pathfinder.
Sandy was appointed Chairman of Pathfinder in 2009 and has worked with the board to maintain high standards of corporate governance over the last decade. He currently sits on a number of corporate boards including Fronde Limited, Coretex Limited and Connexionz Limited, and has previously been on boards of many listed and private NZ companies. He has also held senior executive roles in the financial services industry. Sandy has a B.A. from Yale University and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.
